Vehicle Age and Electrical Complexity

Older vehicles (roughly pre-2000) often have simpler wiring that's easier to tap into directly. Newer vehicles use CAN bus (Controller Area Network) architecture, where systems communicate digitally rather than through dedicated wires. Installing remote start on a CAN bus vehicle typically requires a bypass module — a small interface device that speaks your car's language so the remote start system doesn't trigger security lockouts or cause error codes.
