How the SEA Rental Car Center Works

Seattle-Tacoma uses a consolidated rental car facility called the Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC), located off-site from the main terminal. All major rental companies — including Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, Alamo, Dollar, and Thrifty — operate from this single building rather than scattered lots around the airport.

When you return a vehicle, you'll drive to the CONRAC, not to any terminal garage. The facility is connected to the airport by the Airport Link light rail and a shuttle bus system, so after dropping off your car, you have options for reaching your departure terminal.

Getting to the Rental Car Return 🚗

From I-5 or SR-99, follow signs for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and then specifically for "Rental Car Return." The CONRAC has its own dedicated access road. If you're coming from the airport's central terminal area, follow the signs rather than relying on a general address — GPS sometimes routes drivers to terminal parking instead.

  • Allow extra time. The CONRAC is a large, multi-level structure. Finding the correct aisle for your rental company can take a few minutes, especially during peak travel periods.

The Return Process Itself

Regardless of which company you rented from, the general return flow at SEA's CONRAC follows a familiar pattern:

  1. Pull into your company's return lane on the designated floor.
  2. Leave the car running (or simply exit, for EVs) and take all belongings.
  3. An agent scans your rental agreement and does a quick visual walk-around to check for new damage.
  4. You receive a printed or emailed receipt confirming mileage, fuel level, and any charges.
  5. You proceed to the terminal via light rail or shuttle from inside the CONRAC.

Fuel and EV Return Considerations

If your contract required you to return the vehicle with a full tank, fill up before reaching the CONRAC — there are no gas stations in the facility itself. Stations are available along International Boulevard (SR-99) and near the airport access roads, but traffic near SEA can slow things down, so plan accordingly.

If you rented an electric vehicle, some companies provide charging at the facility, but return procedures for EVs vary by company. Your rental agreement should specify the required charge level at return — typically a stated percentage or a full charge — and failing to meet it can trigger a fee. Confirm this with your specific rental company before the trip.

Timing and When It Gets Complicated ⏱️

Early morning and late evening returns tend to move faster. Midday and early evening — especially Thursday through Sunday — can mean longer queues at the return lanes and delays getting to the terminal.
